Liner Note
As a young teenager I had the good fortune to borrow what must have been the only copy in New Zealand of Henry Mancini's famous "Sounds & Scores" which revealed to me the mysteries of orchestration for the first time. Later, after a stint with Woody Herman's band in the early '70's I settled in Los Angeles where I first became aware of the artistry and vocal skills of Sue Raney and I knew then that it would only be a matter of time before we worked together. The opportunity to write an album of the great music of Henry Mancini for Sue has been one of the highlights of my musical life and I would like to thank her and Albert Marx for making it happen. My development as a writer in the art of accompaniment would not have been possible were it not for the first-hand experience I gained - - from such men as Nelson Riddle, Percy Faith, David Rose, Johnny Mandel, Bill Holman and Peter Myers and I pay homage to them. Special thanks must go to the musicians who brought the music to life with a minimum of rehearsal and a maximum of musicianship and feeling. — Alan Broadbent
