Liner Note
I feel like I am "Ridin' High." With last year's Grammy nomination (thanks NARAS!); and a wonderful recording company, Discovery, and its president, Albert Marx, enabling me to record the way I've always dreamed it could be; and with some of the most talented, finest musicians to sing with — to quote the first few lines of the title tune, "Life's great! Life's grand!"
Thanks — to Bob Florence for his sensitive accompaniment and for his inventive ideas. He seems to have a way, when he sits down at the piano and we begin rehearsing, of leading me into places, musically and lyrically, that I love to travel to over and over again.
--To Bob Magnusson's wonderfully perfect sound, and special bass solo on "No More Blues": I'm so glad he was able to be with us again on this album.
--From Nick Ceroli's talent and excellent timing on drums and percussion, and for his wit and sense of humor (which is also a part of his excellent timing). He kept us smiling through the rough spots and late hours.
And lastly, if you think third base, centerfield and a recording studio don't have something in common, let me explain. Carmen Fanzone used to play third base for the Chicago Cubs. I have "sung centerfield" for the Dodgers. And so it seemed like a "natural" to have Carmen play on Michael Franks' "Baseba1l". But when he added his beautiful flugelhorn solos on "Tea For Two" and "Pure Imagination"... a new dimension to the songs just happened.
A special thank you to Arne Frager, who put it all together in the final mix.
My sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make this album possible.
